Valkar

One of the Doom Peoples, the Valkar are females specializing in combat with a single weapon or Magical Discipline. When the Divine Consortium invoked the Dooms at the end of the Sacred Age, the females born to Solon members of the Cult of Vyxana who remained maidens at the time transitioned from Cult Harem training to become Valkar. The Solowen Rubetha led the Valkar for many centuries, and she modeled this new order of warrior females after the Sword Maidens Gilniel established in the Innocent Age to combat the evil Erenyaas at the time. As a result, the Valkar are often mistakenly called Sword Maidens since many of them at the time of the Second Exodus chose a sword as their weapon of expertise; however, even their leader was not a Sword Maiden because her selected area of Expertise was the Evocation Magical Discipline.
During the Second Exodus, most of the Valkar fled the East on a Landberg that set down on the western slopes of the Coastal Mountains. From there, they disbursed in bands to fight the Empire, often alongside West-Realm or Swordland forces. A member of the Valkar is called a Valkara.
Rubetha provided all of the Valkar a Maiden’s Mirror, and many successfully performed the Unicorn Ritual with the mirror to Bond with a Unicorn.
The Fate of the Doom of the Valkar specified that when any male defeated a Valkara in her chosen area of expertise, the two were inherently betrothed as their Stargons became mutually transparent. After a brief day and night of bliss, the erstwhile Valkara suffered an overpowering (and eventually debilitating) Migration Urge, forcing her to disappear to a location still unknown to the outside world at the start of our story.
If a Valkara were to lose her maidenhood in some manner other than just described (and survived the loss), she lost her will to fight and became a Healer.
At the time of our story, there is only a single remaining Solowen of the Valkar, making Sabretha the Last Valkara and the subject of Queen Asara’s Valkara Quest instituted at the urging of the Grand Father Prophet.

Not only am I the Chronologist of our Age, I am  also the Crown Wizard of both West-Realm and Walanar. As such, I am the principal magical adviser to the ruler of West-Realm and to the Walanar Prince. I am the son of Elmir—who was once the High Priest of the Cult of Vyxana—and Lalmara, whom I believe died in my birth.
